PENCIL vs. CAMERA Project (as influenced by the work of Ben Heine) You have taken this course with a background in either grade 9 or 10 art (those are the pre-requisite courses). Based upon that knowledge, you have some foundational drawing and paintings skills. You are going to start mixing these past skills with the information of the digital, photographic world. READ all these steps BEFORE you begin. (This handout and a rubric was provided in class.) Step One: Get inspired
|
Step Two: Brainstorm
- Brainstorm what images you would like to photograph.
- What are your interests? What do you have easy access to photograph?
- Do you want to paint or draw?
- Do you want realism or creatures from other worlds?
- Talk to someone who knows you and knows your work.
- Record your ideas with any or all of the following: sketches, mindmap, jot notes, (note on this paper) what other people told you also.
- Do you already have a photograph that you love that you want to use? As long as you are the creator of the photo, or have permission from the creator, you can use it.
- Go shoot some images. Do more than you think you need because choices are better than having to re-shoot.
- Save the image that you want onto your S:drive
- Open the image up in Photoshop.
- This is the area that you will be able to layer your images (drawing or painting and photo).
- I am going to leave the last few steps up to you to problem solve. You can determine if you want your hand in the shot or not, you can trace the basics from the computer screen or print the original image…You could even photograph the original image with the blank piece of paper and then draw and add a layer on the blank sheet. There are so many ways to create your final image…
- In Photoshop you will need to save your image two ways:
- As a .psd (this allows you to have the layers)
- As a .jpeg (this will not allow you to make changes, but this is your final copy)
- Save the image with first name and first initial of your last name and the current year
- On your weebly blog
- Create a new page under the Photoshop section
- Call it Pencil vs Camera OR Paint vs. Camera OR Paper Cut vs. Camera (depending on the medium you used)
- Update post
- Complete a reflection sheet
- Submit the reflection sheet and rubric to Ms. Cameron for marking.
- Create a new page under the Photoshop section
